Gato Preto has become one of the most vibrant and extravagant, contemporary African artists. Fusing music and culture from Mozambique to Germany, Ghana to Senegal, this group will have you re-thinking everything you think you know about African music.
Set to play GlobalFest in NYC and Eurosonic, in early 2019, this Afro-Futuristic live act "doesn't just put on a show; it makes a scene" (NPR Music).
Gato Preto built their name through extraordinary video clips and a stunning high energetic live performances on stage with dancers and live percussion combining Electronic Beats and Gata`s powerful voice.
Their style incorporates, jazz, R&B, latin, pop, soul and funk, adding that little " je ne sais quoi" that makes their interpretation of songs very personal.
The last two years a lot happened in the cosmos of Gato Preto, they played festivals and clubs in over 25 countries (including showcases at Womex 2017 & SXSW 2018), interview on Arte Tracks, they released their debut album, and the 2nd will follow in 2019.
The band bring the essence of rockin ´Favela Funk’ from Rio, ‘Township Grooves’ from South Africa and ‘Hybrid Tech’ or ‘Kuduro’ from Angola, to a new level. They are the perfect fusion of contemporary African music, with the sensible ingredients of the last decades of international club-music.
NPR Music sum it up with their review, “Gato Preto's sound is insistent to the point of relentlessness: The globetrotting band piles on layer upon layer of percussion — traditional and electronic — while brandishing earworms like bazookas.
